I have chosen Apple for this project. I find them fascinating for their innovation, technology, and dedication to their customers’ needs. Before Apple, consumer tech was slow, clunky, and lacked innovation. They stepped in to find a solution to this. That is, a solution that would give people a way to live better. A way to live smarter. They spend a great deal of effort crafting products that would improve the human experience. Apple has been a beacon of technological innovation in a world that once lacked it (Apple, n.d.).
One thing I admire most about them is how people-focused they are. I like how they spend a great deal of time and effort researching their customers’ needs. Of course it is important to research this, but they take it one step forward by putting their customer’s needs above Apple’s needs. Furthermore, they make this people-centric approach clear in every keynote they do (Apple, n.d.).
As useful as Apple’s Macs are, gaming is limited on these devices that are more suited for lighter work. They aren’t built for heavy gaming. This is unfortunate for all the heavy gaming Apple fans. That is why I would like to propose that Apple designs its own gaming Mac. This would give gamers a portable way to play all those games that require heavy processing power. For example, Steam games with high-quality graphics and RAM requirements. This portable gaming Mac could be called Mac Ultra.
To craft this product, research on the target audience would be required first. To do this, Apple would need to understand how many of their customers are into heavy gaming, what games they like, and what portable gaming laptops most of them use. Apple would also need to know what issues that group is having with their gaming laptops. This information can be used to design a solution that is better than what they currently use.
Regarding the competition, it will be crucial to learn what gaming laptops are in production today. Out of those, Apple would need to know the most popular models, their specs, prices, strengths, and weaknesses. Only then can Apple properly design a product that not only exploits those weaknesses, but offers something better and at a lower price. Making a competitive gaming laptop could even attract new demand to Apple.
To help be more environmentally friendly, they could make the parts using recycled materials. This would allow Apple to avoid taking resources from the Earth. They could also research what laws they need to adhere to when crafting this product. For example, what technology is patented.
As far as research goes, I think a bit of both primary and secondary research would go a long way. Primary research would give Apple the qualitative and quantitative data to make key insights into the gaming laptop community. As for the competition, using secondary research would be useful to understand what they have made. For example, researching SWOT analyses of competing gaming laptop brands.
